Clinic 4 Kidz provides intensive feeding therapy for children from 9 months to 10 years of age. We work with children with a variety of medical diagnosis (e.g., gastroesophageal reflux, failure to thrive, cardiac and pulmonary conditions). In addition, we also provide treatment for children with autism who display food selectivity by type and texture.
Treatment is provided in the child's natural environment. Our therapists travel all over the San Francisco Bay Area, Southern Los Angeles, and Orange County to provide state of the art treatment to children. We are committed to providing individualized treatment using an interdisciplinary approach. In addition to our team, we also work very closely with the child's existing medical team (e.g., physicians, speech therapists, occupational therapists, special educators) to optimize treatment.
What is a pediatric feeding disorder?
A feeding disorder is characterized by difficulties with eating or drinking that may affect weight or nutrition. This problem may include food or fluid refusal or selectivity. Some children may be dependent on tube feedings or bottle feedings to grow. A feeding disorder may be accompanied by behavior problems during mealtime (e.g., tantrums). In addition, some children may display skill deficits such as an inability to chew or swallow foods. Finally, medical problems such as vomiting may also be evident in children with feeding disorders. These problems may arise at any time during childhood.
What is ARFID?
ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) is a serious eating disorder where individuals limit the amount or variety of food they eat, not due to body image concerns, but because of intense sensory sensitivities, lack of interest in food, or a strong fear of choking, vomiting, or pain from eating, leading to significant nutritional deficiencies, weight loss, and social/psychological issues
